WIP Catch up

Just in case my blog is beginning look as if all I’m ever going to subject you to in future is bad sketching and strange looking machine scribbles, I thought I’d better do a quick WIP catch up…

My red sweater is still on the go. Not much progress since last time – too distracted by every other craft. All I’ve done is finish the wrapped pattern and add some ribbing to  the top.

20191009_124557(0)

I’m currently contemplating how to edge the top – since casting straight off from the rib is going to create a rather unsightly seam – or rather I keep meaning to contemplate it.

My other knitting WIP – a tea cosy for my friend – has come to a complete standstill. I really should finish it, so little left to do…

20190925_163224

I’ve completed two more squares of my crochet blanket – 12 down, 8 to go.

20191009_124658

I’ve started an embroidery, which was supposed to be a quick project, but I keep sitting down too late in the evening to concentrate on it.

20191002_220241

I’ve already sold out/sent out all of the free motion embroidery cards I made, so I’ve made a huge batch more. The fronts are currently waiting to be stuck to the cards.

There is also pair of PJ bottoms wafting around somewhere almost finished.

As you can see I’m almost keeping to my promise of not to having more than one project of each type on the go at once – although not making huge progress on any.

Until next time,

Holiday Crafting

Having been told to pack light for the motor home trip, I decide taking most of a finished jumper to complete was not a good plan. Instead I picked up a couple of small projects I’d been meaning to work on for ages.

On the way up to Bridgend to pick up the motor home I knitted a rat for a friend who had asked me to knit her one – as friends do.

20190925_163102

There was no knitting while travelling in the van, since I was giving Harry my undivided attention.

Crochet took over as we chilled on holiday and I completed three squares of the Charlotte square blanket…

20190925_163505

On the drive back home from Bridgend to home I knitted most of a  tea cosy sweater for a friend who’d requested one.

So I still have the tea cosy to finish, but I still feel I accomplished plenty on holiday – not that I needed to accomplish anything apart from have a good time.

Until next time,

Knitting WIP

I can hardly believe it was the 2nd May when I last posted a knitting WIP – the start of my cream Heartfelt cardigan. I have however been working on another knitting project since the middle of June when I bought this pile of wool to work on a holiday project…

20190531_153859oo

I knitted a stocking stitch back and sleeves on holiday, because I wanted something to knit in the car that I didn’t have to look at while I enjoyed the Scottish scenery.

When I got home I thought I’d better decide on how to make a more interesting front. Here’s the pattern I chose…

20190915_165313

..and here’s the whole of the front I’ve knitted so far….

20190915_165307

Nearly there. And when I’ve finished I might even write the pattern up – or not. I’m sure by now you know what I’m like.

Until next time,

Scrap Happy Christmas – Santa Sacks

I hate to mention the C word so early, but when you’re crafting, I’m afraid it has to be done…

Those of you who’ve been reading my blog for quite a while might remember back in 2016 I challenged myself to design and knit one Santa sack a day from December 1st to the 24th and post each pattern daily.

Snowman Santa Sack

Not only did I (just about) keep up with the challenge, I tidied up my patterns after Christmas and published them as an ‘advent calendar’ pattern of 27 Santa sacks.

27 Knitted Santa Sacks

Every year since I’ve found myself knitting a few Santa sacks using scraps of yarn.

These little Santa sack patterns have proved themselves extra usable, because  knitting with different plys of yarn gives different size Santa sacks with different uses.

*If used decoratively, the Santa sacks will look best if they are stuffed lightly with toy stuffing. They can also be filled with herbs and spices to add a delightful Christmas scent to a room or popped inside a parcel.

Approx 20g wool needed per sack

  • Hand warmer covers

Chunky and Super Chunky probably use more than you have in scrap amounts, but I confess I do have balls of yarn I’ve only used a small amount of, so maybe you do too. Plus most sacks use more than one colour and the amounts I’m quoting are total weight used for each sack.

Chunky

Approx 36g wool needed per sack

  • Christmas gift wrapping
  • Party favour bags

Super Chunky

Approx 65g wool needed per sack

  • Christmas gift wrapping
  • Christmas ‘stockings’
  • Small hot water bottle cover

Right now I’m setting off knitting nearly a whole set – challenging myself again to knit one a day. I’ll be posting them on Instagram. And while I’m thinking about Instagram if you don’t and you’d like to follow me on IG, you can find me @dartmooryarns.

Heartfelt Cardigan Ta Da!

Still catching up with the makes I finished while I wasn’t blogging in June/July. I finished this as I went on holiday. It was a bit of a mad rush, because I realised I only needed to take one cardigan if I finished it. After all you can wear a cream cardigan with anything – can’t you?

Here it is…

TA DA!

And the back…

20190816_141859

Nothing else to say really.

Apart from I’m never never, never, NEVER going to write up the pattern – far to complicated to calculate it for other sizes.

Until next time.

Mitred Squares Finish

Many many moons ago I started making a bag from mitred squares. But then I decided I didn’t want to make them into a bag, so they sat in my UFO basket as I pondered what to make of them.

20170728_142442oo

I was still unsure when I listed my Frog or Finish 9 for 2019, so they didn’t make the list. But I’m pleased to say, I finally took them out, added a square and a zip and turned them into a cushion…

Another UFO bites the dust. And it wasn’t even on the list! 🙂

Frog or Finish 2019 – May Update

It’s been a month since my last Frog or Finish update of the 9 UFOs that I and vowed to finish or frog this year.

Having dealt with five of them when I posted about them in April, I had four left to finish…

I was delighted to report on Monday that I’d finally finished the floral quilt.

20190505_095830oo

I’m also pleased to say I took advantage of the hot weather at Easter and blocked the unblocked shawl…

20190420_142904oo

Book group is the place I knit my UFO socks, because I don’t have to pay any attention to them, apart from when I turned the heel – which I did at home. So they’re growing nicely, but I’ve still no idea why I started at the top on one and the toe on the other.

That leaves my blue cardigan. Unfortunately I’m getting nowhere looking for buttons. It’s driving me crackers – all I need to do is find some buttons I’m happy with to finish, yet it’s turned into a seemingly impossible task.

20190125_123632

Apart from my button frustration I’m very happy with my UFO progress. Dare I ask how you guys are doing with your UFO counts this month?

Until next time,
