New Year, New project

Having felt too unwell to knit over Christmas, I finally picked my needles up again on Friday. Whilst I did technically start this project in November, swatching and knitting the back edging, I left it there since:

  1. I needed to finish Lovely Husband’s Christmas sweater.
  2. Lovely Husband’s Christmas sweater was on the needles I wanted to use.

I also admit, that although I’d been planning it a while, I couldn’t get much enthusiasm for it. However, I’ve been fully enthused since Friday and this is how far I’ve got…

Sometimes a pattern looks better in a swatch than when you knit a whole garment in it, but I’m pleased to say, I’m liking this pattern even more than I did when it was in the swatch. However the pattern is quite ‘dense’ and I can’t make my mind up whether to knit it entirely in the pattern or make it a half and half affair, with the pattern stopping somewhere just below the armpits then knitting on in stocking stitch. It’s going to be a long cardigan BTW.

What do you think?

    1. Thanks for your vote. I was sold on part and part originally, but I am wavering – which is why I asked. I also know the lazy part of me is thinking it will knit quicker in part stocking stitch, but then another part of me is reminding me I get bored with stocking stitch!

  1. Stocking stitch is boring, it’s true but what about the sleeves in stocking stitch – at least you can do two at a time.
Is this going to be a ‘for sale’ pattern or just something you fancy for yourself?

    1. Why can’t I do patterned sleeves two at a time?
You know me, it starts of for me, then I think I might as well write it up as a pattern, then I don’t. However, that will be changing this year, so the answer is ‘for sale’!

      1. Well, you could do patterned sleeves two at a time but I was just responding to your original ponderings about whether you could leave some of the cardigan free of pattern and I thought, if it were the sleeves, and you did them two at a time, they could be done very quickly. I’m trying to visualise it with the body in your lovely pattern and the sleeves in stocking stitch. All in all, I think it would probably be better with the pattern all over but you did ask.

  2. I love the moss stitcch rib is it and the honeycomb type of pattern. You could do cables at the top, and why not do the ribbing on the sleeves for about 4 inches and then stocking stitch. I really like this, have you got enough yarn?

    1. Yes, it’s double honeycomb – honeycomb with a dimple in the middle. Cables is an interesting idea. Thank you. Yes, I dyed some of my white Ryeland, so I could definitely have enough and put any left over in the shop πŸ™‚ So pleased you like it πŸ™‚
