Sunday Sevens – 27th August

Joining in again this week with Sunday Sevens – started by Nathalie at Threads and Bobbins – sharing seven (or so) pictures of  the week beyond the blog.

Last Sunday we continued my birthday celebrations with breakfast on Exeter Quay…

But we saved cake for after Sunday lunch at home…

My birthday itself was during the week. I went out for lunch at the Bearslake Inn with a friend…

But I’d eaten out so much over the previous weekend, I decided to stay in and have a Chinese takeaway in the evening…

Of course I didn’t have a truly happy birthday, because my best friend was spending his second week in the cone of shame…

I’ve tried to have him with me as much as possible, so he hasn’t had to wear it too much. Although he always comes out for the pub quiz with us anyway. This week we lost by just one and a half points…

Although I’d had enough eating out earlier in the week, on Friday I managed to check out a new local cafe with a friend.

If you’re local, Cafe Scrumptious is well worth a visit. It’s in the old Royal Standard pub at Mary Tavy. They aren’t allowed to change the main sign yet, so it’s easy it miss that it’s arrived.

Although I’ve already included enough cake in this post, there was also cake on Friday at craft afternoon…

On Saturday there was more eating out when Lydford House Hotel had a BBQ. The local nursery were selling raffle tickets and Lovely Husband was very excited when he got a message to say he had won a prize. But not so excited when he saw what it was…

It wasn’t this version, but I failed to take a picture of the version we fleetingly had.

We donated it to Tree Tops Nursery’s library.

And just when you thought I’d finished posting pictures of cake, on Saturday evening, it was a friend’s 50th birthday party…

You may recognise the dogs as these three…

Hope you’ve had good cakey week.

    1. Hello. Thank you for thinking about me. Way too much cake! Next week more salad. Although as I type I’ve just tested toffee vodka with ice cream – well I was a birthday present, and I did do nine miles on my bike this morning….

  1. Two amazing cakes! I can imagine you couldn’t celebrate quite as wholeheartedly as you would have liked with poor old Mr. Hicks in his cone. We discovered some sinister looking black spots on Taz’s underside last week and he’s apparently suffered a reaction to the arthritis meds the vet put him on so we’ve got some pills and ointment for him now but, luckily, no cone.

It is pretty nice here, Spring is coming soon. I have not knitted much, and am missing it. Hoping to have some more knitting time again soon.

  3. Wow, those cakes! Together with the gorgeous ones my friend always commissions for her family, it almost makes me feel bad that my lot only ever get a boring homemade one. It’s an in-joke that my cakes look like s*@t but taste lovely. I guess that’s the right way round, at least! Sad to see Hicks in The Cone, but glad you’re managing to spend as much time with him as possible. Happy Birthday for last week!

    1. Thank you. That’s definitely the right way around, but I’m surprised they don’t look good since you’re so creative – I’m suspecting here you’re being modest. Pleased to say HRH has been out of the cone most o this week 🙂
