(Almost) Wordless Wednesday – Widgery Cross on Brat Tor

I’ve been meaning to share this picture for ages. I commissioned my lovely, and amazingly talented, friend Lisa Mann, to paint it for Lovely Husband’s birthday.

    1. Me too – she does it mostly with her fingers too! It’s one of my husband’s favourite places. There’s a couple of links below that explain more, but the cross was erected at the expense of local artist William Widgery to commemorate Queen Victoria’s golden jubilee. .

    1. I agree, she’s done brilliantly, especially since I sent the poor girl several photos and a very wordy explanation about things like you can’t see the cross on the distance photo, but you can with the naked eye and whatever you do the dog must look like a golden retriever not a Labrador!

  1. Beautiful painting, Bekki, I’m sure your husband would have loved it. The information about Widgery Cross is very interesting, too – all those granite blocks. I’ve never visited it, even when we lived in Crediton for a while.

    1. Hi Millie. Glad you enjoyed it. I thought of you when I posted the links 🙂 I guess there’s a lot to visit on the moor and also, I think, life’s so busy you often only go exploring when you have visitors.
